We came about first by playing football, then by coaching, then by starting a new team.
Our coaching staff started, and continued to have, experienced coaches who have been football players themselves and have also coached women's tackle football for several years.
Our Owner/ Founder, CJ, is also a women's tackle football player who has received many accolades, including that of All-American and All-Star several times in her football career. She was named Most Consistent Player on her former team and MVP on the Sting; she also had a featured photo in the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Free Press publications on several occasions.
These experiences helped open other doors and allowed this team to be created. CJ is making it her mission to continue to advance the game of football for athletes of all ages, and in turn, change lives. Women deserve to be empowered, they deserve to be seen, and they deserve to be celebrated. This is how the River City Sting was born.

Signing with the USPWFL Developmental League
The River City Sting's signed with the USPWFL for the 2025 season (our 5th season), which gives us the opportunity to pay our players and staff-- this is a first of its kind! We are so excited to have this opportunity, as our team's out-of-pocket costs will be greatly reduced! We want to be able to give women the opportunity to play and this is a way to compensate them and our staff members for their contribution to the sport.
2024 WTFL ChampionsHIP APPEARANCE
The River City Sting's fourth season in 2024 ended in a championship appearance; unfortunately, we came up short by only 2 points. But again, we are so proud of our team for pushing through our season and making a statement.
2022 WTFL ChampionsHIP APPEARANCE
The River City Sting's second season in 2022 ended in a championship appearance (for the second season in a row). Although we didn't come out with the victory, we are still so proud of our team! We had a really tough season, but started rebuilding and preparing for the next season.
2021 USWFL Champions
The River City Sting's inaugural season in 2021 ended in a flawless victory-- an undefeated 5-0 season with a Championship win! We are so proud of our coaches and players for their teamwork, performance, hard work, and dedication!

We were so excited to be part of this monumental moment! The Tennessee Titans played against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, November 10th; immediately following the game, the River City Sting Women's Tackle Football Team played against the Tri-Cities Thunder in an Exhibition Game prior to our inaugural Spring 2020 season. There were two other mini-games following our main event. We ended in a tie (0-0) and kept the reigning Champs scoreless; there were no injuries and the Sting incurred no penalties, so it was a huge success for us. Be sure to follow us @RiverCitySting on Facebook and Instagram to track our journey!
