We came about first by playing football, then by coaching, then by starting a new team.
Our initial Co-Founder, Mike, played football nearly all his life, dominating on and off the field. He landed several opportunities coaching players of all levels. He then found himself coaching semi-professional women's football and helped contribute towards a Championship appearance in their former team's inaugural year. The Owner/ Co-Founder, CJ, was a women's tackle football player for a few years as well, under the coaching of Mike. She has received many accolades, including that of All-American twice in her football career. She was named Most Consistent Player on her former team and has even had a featured photo in the Richmond Times Dispatch.
These experiences helped open other doors and allowed them to create their own team. CJ is making it her mission to continue to advance the game of football for athletes of all ages, and in turn, change lives. Women deserve to be empowered, they deserve to be seen, and they deserve to be celebrated. This is how the River City Sting was born.

We were so excited to be part of this monumental moment! The Tennessee Titans played against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, November 10th; immediately following the game, the River City Sting Women's Tackle Football Team played against the Tri-Cities Thunder in an Exhibition Game prior to our inaugural Spring 2020 season. There were two other mini-games following our main event. We ended in a tie (0-0) and kept the reigning Champs scoreless; there were no injuries and the Sting incurred no penalties, so it was a huge success for us. Be sure to follow us @RiverCitySting on Facebook and Instagram to track our journey!
