The "Real Deal of Teal" Returns: River City Sting Announces 2026 Season Opener in the AWFL
RICHMOND, VA — March 17, 2026 — The River City Sting, Richmond’s premier women’s tackle football organization, is proud to announce its official 2026 season kickoff. Coming off a dominant 2024 runner-up finish and a history of championship excellence, the Sting enters the 2026 season as a member of the American Women’s Football League (AWFL) Northeast Conference.
Led by owner and veteran player CJ James, the Sting continues to redefine women’s sports in Central Virginia. "This season is about more than just the scoreboard," says James. "It’s about discipline, community, and proving that Richmond is a powerhouse for women’s tackle football. We aren't just building a team; we're building a legacy."
The Sting’s 2026 campaign features a high-stakes schedule against division rivals, including the RVA Lady Tomahawks and the VA Lady Eagles. With a roster of elite athletes—ranging from local artists to corporate professionals—the team is prepared to bring the USWFL 2021 championship energy back to the River City.
